In the late 1960s, the Black Panther Party grew from a backyard organization in Oakland to over 40 chapters throughout the United States. Filmmaker and director Stanley Nelson walks us through the group's rise during the civil-rights movement by explaining scenes from his new documentary, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution.
This discussion is moderated by Atlantic editor James Bennet and took place at the 2015 Washington Ideas Forum.
